Welcome, and thank you for visiting. I'm Masha Martynenko Ellsworth, a Ukrainian-American storyteller, independent filmmaker, and leader in the animation industry. As a Lead Technical Director in the Characters Department at a top animation studio, I have spent over two decades bringing iconic characters to life in some of the most celebrated animated films.

Beyond studio animation, I am deeply committed to independent filmmaking, using my craft to explore untold stories and cultural narratives. Born and raised in northern Ukraine, I bring a unique perspective to my work, blending technical expertise with a passion for art and storytelling. I hold dual degrees in Computer Science and Visual Art from Brigham Young University.

I invite you to explore my indie film projects and join me in celebrating the power of animation, culture, and storytelling.

My Projects

"Little t" is a story about silencing the inner critic and reconnecting with your younger self. Its themes of self-doubt and self-expression resonated with artists across the industry, bringing together talent from Pixar, Netflix Animation, DreamWorks, Sony Animation, DNEG, and beyond. Created through Pixar’s co-op program, Little t is a testament to the power of collaboration and overcoming self-doubt. Watch it now on my website and engage with activities designed to help unwind and remind us of what brought us joy.

"Bound" is my second animated project close to my heart, inspired by my Ukrainian roots and my love for the folk song "Galya Carries Water." It's the missing verse of Ukraine’s favorite love song. I've always wanted to solve this mystery, and I made sure the film looks like it was cross-stitched, honoring traditional Ukrainian craftsmanship. The music, created with authentic Ukrainian instruments and vocalists, adds another layer of cultural richness. As a Ukrainian, I'm thrilled to share the beauty and complexity of our culture with the world through this film.

“Wishing Trees” is the latest animated short from Masha Makes Movies, now in production for a June 2025 festival release. Inspired by the quiet strength and interconnectedness of nature, the film explores how trees support, heal, and endure—even when no one is watching. Follow along as this poetic story takes root and comes to life.
