Pixar Animator Masha Ellsworth’s Bound to Premiere in BIAF Shorts Competition

We’re thrilled to share that Bound, the latest animated short film by Pixar animator Masha Ellsworth, will make its world premiere at the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF) 2024 as part of the Shorts Competition.

In a recent feature by Animation Magazine, journalist Mercedes Milligan writes:

“The selections include Bound, by Pixar animator Masha Ellsworth (character TD on Brave, Coco & Cars 3), which will have its world premiere screening at Bucheon. Her previous film, Little t, screened at BIAF last year.”

Set in a picturesque Ukrainian village, Bound follows the story of Galya and Ivanko, two twenty-somethings who meet by chance when Ivanko’s rake catches a thread on Galya’s apron. What begins as a small moment quickly turns into a heartfelt connection—but misunderstandings and missed opportunities soon threaten to pull them apart.

Combining the elegance of Ukrainian folk tradition with richly stylized animation, Bound is a story about timing, vulnerability, and the invisible threads that connect us.

This marks Masha Ellsworth’s return to BIAF, following the success of her previous short Little t, which screened at the festival in 2023 and received acclaim for its emotionally resonant take on the inner critic and healing from everyday trauma.
