Pixar Animator’s Bound to Screen at Palm Springs AmDocs Festival
We’re excited to share that Bound, the latest independent short film by Pixar animator Masha Ellsworth, will screen at the Palm Springs American Documentary and Animation Film Festival (AmDocs) on March 31, 2025.
A visually rich and emotionally layered film, Bound reimagines the beloved Ukrainian folk song “Galya Carries Water,” filling in its long-lost verse through the language of animation. The film blends traditional Ukrainian cross-stitch aesthetics with contemporary storytelling to explore heartbreak, misunderstanding, and the threads that tie us together.
Featured in The Desert Sun, Bound highlights Masha’s personal journey—from working on world-renowned films at Pixar to crafting intimate, culture-rooted stories as an independent filmmaker. This screening marks another step in Bound’s successful festival run and a proud moment for Ukrainian cultural representation in the global animation scene.
🎟️ Bound screens as part of Program 51 at 2:30 PM on March 31 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center.
