A Reunion with My Palm Springs Film Family – Highlights from AmDocs Film Festival 2024
I recently returned from the American Documentary and Animation Film Festival (AmDocs) in Palm Springs — and I’m still riding a wave of gratitude and inspiration. This was my second year attending AmDocs, and the experience felt like coming home to my Palm Springs film family.
What makes AmDocs Film Festival truly special is its deep connection with the Palm Springs community. This year, I had the beautiful experience of staying with a local host family. Their warmth was unforgettable — they even clipped out newspaper articles that featured the screening of my animated short film Bound. I’ve saved those clippings and will treasure them always.
The festival was a perfect blend of reunion and discovery. I reconnected with fellow filmmakers I met last year and made meaningful new connections. I especially enjoyed getting to know the team behind Ninetynine Films and their moving short documentary Grid, and was deeply touched by Ignacio Walker’s new film Her Shark Story. Being surrounded by passionate creators from around the world reminded me why I love being part of the independent film community.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Teddy Grouya, Leighton Ginn, and the incredible volunteers who make the AmDocs Film Festival such a nurturing and inspiring space. The care and dedication they pour into this Palm Springs documentary festival is felt in every moment — from the screenings to the filmmaker conversations to the quiet, thoughtful details.
I’m so thankful to have been part of AmDocs 2025, and I can’t wait to return again.
Until next time, Palm Springs 💛
