Meet the Crew: Kyle Roldan
Kyle Roldan, Modeling and Rigging Technical Director for “Little t“
Can you walk us through the rigging process for a specific character in "Little t"?
The rigging process requires meeting our criteria for characters; do they function well, are they meeting calibration standards, are the scopes we need hitting the marks we want. I helped work on the character Mira on “Little T”.
2. How did you ensure that the character's rig allowed for a wide range of movements and expressions?
Her character was much more cute and round, compared to her counterpart, Deborah. It took time to find the right range for her emotions; are they round like she is? With help and supervision from Jared Fong, I was able to find the correct range of what Mira could do.
3. Were there any unique challenges you faced while rigging a character for an animated short film, and how did you overcome them?
This was my first time using the proprietary software to rig this character, so it came with the challenge of translating software language. I had so much help from Jared, that it made this transition very smooth. I was able to learn some of the language and key words that he would use to convey exactly what he wanted the character to do. I learned a lot from working on Little T, I hope to continue working with Masha and Jared in the future!
4. What’s your favorite comfort food or desert?
Gyoza and Shaved Ice! A delicious sweet and salty combination of japanese delights I used to eat at Obon festival in San Jose.
