Meet the Crew: Jared Fong

Jared Fong, Modeling/Rigging Supervisor for “Little t“

1. Can you describe the process of interpreting Arisa's anime-inspired art style into the 3D models and rigs for "Little t"?

One of the most challenging aspects of modeling anime-inspired characters is their unique front and side profiles, particularly the distinctive features around the eyes and the angle that connects the nose, lips, and chin. Finding the right balance between 2D drawings and creating an attractive 3D model is crucial in any modeling process.

2. Can you describe the process of training new riggers for "Little t"?

When training new riggers, the key goal is to equip them with the skills to manage the intricacies of rigging, such as deciding which weights to use and which corrective shaping techniques to apply. Moreover, it is important to teach them different workflows and techniques to achieve the desired results, and also when to use them to solve specific problems. Comprehending the model from an animation standpoint and being able to predict their necessities is a crucial component of the rigging process.

3. What qualities do you think are important for a rigger to have?

A skilled rigger typically has a strong sense of aesthetics and anatomy, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and develop innovative solutions for new challenges. Moreover, they possess excellent multitasking skills and can prioritize tasks based on their level of importance.

4. What’s your favorite comfort food or desert?

French Fries!
